The music style of Carthage is a very nice mix of metalcore, deathcore, hardcore with a hint of djent thrown in. The tightness of this band is very impressive, each song on this album is very precise and sharp as a razor. I really enjoy how each track has it’s own life to it you won’t find a track that sounds like another or has the same feeling. Of course I wouldn’t expect anything less from such a great guitarist like Tre Watson.
‘Salt The Earth’ is a beast, the arrangement in each song is amazing and sucks you into their world via riffs, drums and great vocals that have a very nice range of lows and highs as well as clean singing that is very smooth. Everything accents each other well, it is heavy and in your face when it needs to be then changes at times to give you a break only to push you back down to remind you Carthage is something you don’t mess with. The best way I can describe some of the guitar work is controlled chaotic machine that is equipped with a huge arsenal at it’s disposal. The guitar work is filled with polyrhythms that are able to break you or comfort you via smooth leads.
I enjoy every track on this album but “Continuous” stands out for me. It has such a great mix of everything that is Carthage it’s heavy, powerful and smooth. I really enjoyed the female clean vocals and the outro makes this track seem epic. Also, I really liked “Pushing Forward (Acoustic)” it is a great example of the vocal talent the vocalist has, his screams/growls are right on but this track really displays how well he can sing. Overall each aspect of ‘Salt The Earth’ is great with great musicians the songs are put together well and carry a lot of energy.
I recommend you checking this album out.
