“Oppression Unsheathed” is the first single from NYN’s upcoming album Eventuality. “Oppression Unsheathed” is an almost six-minute death metal monster that should excite fans of the band or death metal in general. NYN is the solo project of Noyan Tokgozoglu, one of the guitarist/vocalists behind the progressive metal band Carthage. He performs all the instruments, and does an excellent job crafting interesting progressive/”modern” death metal in the vein of bands like Job For A Cowboy and The Black Dahlia Murder.
“Oppression Unsheathed” features all the necessary components for a solid death metal song – fast drumming, excellent vocals and incredible guitar work. Noyan’s vocals range from high shrieks that would make Trevor Strnad proud, to solid mid-range growls. He doesn’t go too low, but has enough range to keep the delivery from becoming repetitive. The guitars are constantly doing something interesting and work very well with the vocals. The drum tone is more natural, instead of the very fake sound preferred by a lot of bands. It sounds as if they were created from some high-quality samples though, not actual playing.
“Oppression Unsheathed” is an exciting teaser for what is sure to be an interesting album. Judging by this song and NYN’s past work, Eventuality should be fantastic. Keep your eyes peeled for new NYN in the future, and enjoy this great song in the meantime.
Eventuality coming soon.
