Genre: Death Metal
Album Year: 2013
The first thought that went through my head as I heard this album was, “death metal from Israel eh? This has to be good!” So I was a bit concerned when the album’s first track “By the Book” sounded just like its name had promised…but then the second track started, and I quit my bitching. “Downhill from Nothing” kicked off with a one two punch of ball slapping drum beats and colon shredding death metal riffs. It would have made the perfect anthem for the flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz to beat each other senselessly to while blanketing Dorothy and the gang in a heap of death metal feces.
Ferium kept the brutality coming with each track being tighter and punchier than the track before it. The riffs got heavier, the beats got blastier, the vocals got more guttural, and my bowels clinched tighter with excitement. The track “Change of Winds” convinced me that a band like Meshuggah needs to take these guys on tour as it was the perfect blend of classic death metal attitude meets that slap happy djent sound that Meshuggah has perfected over the years.
Overall this album was fanfuckingtastic. I know a great death metal album when I hear one, and this was one of the best one’s I’ve heard in a while. I’d give my left kidney to see these guys come tour the States (my right kidney is way more brutal anyways.) Ferium are the real deal, and they need to keep this shit up!
