(sic) is a song universally recognised for it’s standout riffs, rap-speed lyrics and Corey Taylor’s rage-filled vocals. Many bands have attempted to one up Slipknot by covering (sic) in various forms, but none are quite as heavy and well-made as South California deathcore band, Goliath’s attempt.
Goliath cover takes (sic) and converts it into a much angrier, psychotic song. The vocals are outstanding, the cover switching between high screams and low, menacing growls. The guitars are excellent, perfectly following the tempo and standard set by Mick Thompson and Jim Root, only adding more distortion and palm muting to suit Goliath’s deathcore style.
The drum work is also very good, still following the template laid out by Slipknot, mixing in some more crash cymbals and faster pedal work, making the cover sound a hell of a lot more brutal.
The only downside I can find is that in some parts, it lacks the raw aggression and hate-filled tone of the original, which is what made the song so well known. Overall, this is the best (sic) cover I have heard, Goliath have done a fantastic job here.
RIP Paul Gray.
