Is there still a place in the modern metal scene for Cybergrind? I haven’t heard a good Cybergrind band since Hanni Kohl, so when I saw that Interrupting Cow had a new album out, I was more apprehensive then excited. I was a fan of their two previous releases, but they never stayed on my radar. What I found was an incredibly solid release; a crushing album that is way more serious then I thought it was going to be.
Interrupting cow is a one-man band hailing from Pennsylvania. Their newest album, “Utopian Dreamer” is their third, and easily best, release. It’s eight tracks of (oxymoron alert) well-produced Cybergrind. Don’t be turned off by the name, Interrupting Cow is anything but a joke. This album is everything a good Cybergrind should be. I’d even go as far as to call it post-cybergrind. The mixing, mastering and production quality is so good (yet retro) that you almost forget that it is a self-produced, one-man project.
I really don’t have anything negative to say about this album. The breakdowns are a bit predictable, but then again, what kind of Cybergrind release would this be if it wasn’t oversaturated with breakdowns. So, long story short, download “Utopian Dreamer,” and get your grind on.
