The Germans always seem to produce monumental deathcore and death metal, and Munich based band Into Oblivion (such a wicked name) are no exception to this. Into Oblivion proclaim that they combine groove, speed and melodic metal into a unique sound that still hits hard. Formed in 2010, the band take influence from Despised Icon, Impending Doom and After The Burial.
Their new single, ‘The Devil Knows My Name’, begins with a very odd intro, consisting of a short, echoing piano piece and a low, guttural sound. It then suddenly implodes into a quick, tediously precise riff structure and some shout/mid vocals. The vocals really stand out on this track, being mastered and produced very professionally – also worth noting the vocalist has a very distinct almost ‘whine’ to his shouts, that add an element of pure emotion to this track, and not just robotic, meaningless growls.
The structure of the song doesn’t change a lot, not straying from the path of quick shredding on heavily downtuned guitars and ankle shattering double bass sorties – however there is a lot of variety in the drumming, making use of every possible sound and placing them into the mix very well.
I had not heard of this band before, but after listening to this great single, I am now a big fan. Keep it coming Munich!
