Deathcore quintet Mortukai from the Netherlands are a force to be reckoned with proven by this five-tracked brutal EP. Whilst not always providing a standard that some in the scene would consist of, the EP still boasts to extortionate lengths in terms of variation, especially within the vocal performances. An intro consisting of breakdowns and fancy guitar work shreds the album into high hopes, leading into ‘State Of Incoherency’ – blasting out groovy core structures, powered by mid-ranged screams that often become guttural growls which for me is something that makes the album truly exciting. Favourable track ‘Deflecting The Structure’ initially becomes an insane anthem of raging monstrosity. Mathcore riffs reign supreme in the track which continue to grow on the listener with each minute deeper into the song.
I would recommend Mortukai for fans of Miss May I and early As I Lay Dying. Despite Mortukai hailing themselves to be deathcore, I would up most argue that metalcore is their true aspect after several spins of the EP.
