From the great city of Pittsburg, PA, I bring you “Onyx Eye”. The band has just released their first single, “The Gallery of Lies”. I believe it’s safe to say that this band still has some work to do. I enjoyed the rhythm of the song and it’s headed in the right direction but I would have liked it much more if there had been unexpected changes in tempo, more bass guitar or perhaps some polyrhythms. I like the guitars but during some parts of the songs, it sounded a bit dragged. Heaviness isn’t always easy, if it’s not performed right, it’ll sound muddy and it’ll bore your audience. Like mentioned before, maybe some more bass would have been nice. Don’t always hide in the back, take a different track from what the guitars and drums are playing to add some “zingy-ness” to the music. The drums were actually pretty good, maybe not too much on the cymbals but nonetheless, good job. I love the vocals except when it changes; just kind of sounds like it’s someone talking. Sing more, don’t be shy.

I think this is a great song to start a band off with. It’s your first single and you want people to critique every detail of it so you know what needs to change and get a better understanding of how you compose your next track. I look forward to hearing some more from these guys and see them grow. Good luck to them.
