EP Year: 2013
Genre: Progressive Deathcore
Purify the Wasted wastes no time bringing the heat with ‘Revenge…’ Practically punching you in the face with a wall of sound, deep growls, pulverizing blast beats and a slam like breakdown. As the song progresses, Purify the Wasted continue to show off their ability to bring the heavy throughout the intro track, building up to with gutturals the likes of the great Phil Bozeman. Heading into track 2, PTW continues to show off their riff writing abilities by playing not just 1, but 2 perfectly complementing melodies at the same time. ‘…Is Sweet’, similar to the intro track, continues to show off not only their ability to write heaviness the likes of an African elephant but melodic and heavy riffs sprinkled with superb layered vocals.

The breakdowns in track 2 are so god-punishingly, earth-shatteringly, virgin-rapingly heavy that they would nearly make Whitechapel’s ‘The Somatic Defilement’ feel like a feather. ‘Rotten Dreams’ continues their sound evolution with a thrash that sounds like it came straight from Slayer’s masterpiece, ‘Reign in Blood,’ that leads into a a breakdown that would make a black hole feel like a paperweight. Track 4 continues their sound progression with riffs that sound hauntingly similar to Through the Eyes of the Dead’s ‘Malice.’ To finish off the EP, Purify the Wasted shows that they are not going to ease up the reigns and continue the bombardment of pain with Fronz-esque highs and growls as deep as Mariana’s trench.
With the progression of the EP, Purify the Wasted’s Demo shows off their continually improving sound by leaps and bounds, especially since they basically change the genre flawlessly with every track. Though, the most impressive fact about this superb EP is that they are all only 16-17 years old!
