Album Year: 2012
Drawing influence from progressive hardcore and brutal deathcore, Verbera (Ver-bare-uh) combine conventional styles and add their own twist to create an overall very unique and addictive sound. Throughout the EP, the listener will find plenty of breakdowns and furious hardcore passages that coalesce into one big heap of angry. However, on the fifth track, “Fortitude,” a melody opens things up as a distinct change of pace from the rest of the EP. The rest of the track is heavier than the intro would imply, but the melody resonates through two-steps and breakdowns ideal for a live setting and comparable to Hundredth or The Ghost Inside. The album ends on a similar note with more emotional hardcore, as the visages of djent and deathcore dissipate into an afterthought. All in all, this EP is full of fun songs with unique traits and diverse moods and atmospheres that will sate the pallets of a wide range of listeners, and possibly serve as a gateway between genres.
